Rolex brand is
founded by Hans Wilsdorf who was born in 1881 in Bavaria, and at the age of 19 years old, he
worked as an agent for watch manufacturer that is engaged in export.
In 1905, he created
his own company called Wilsdorf and Davis, which was mainly responsible for
watch sales, and he also developed watches. At 8 a.m. of July 2 in 1908, he
registered the Rolex brand. Besides, the first batch of Rolex watches possessed
superb technology and quality, so they attracted lots of people’s attention. In
1914, a small Rolex watch got the Class A certificate from Kew Observatory, therefore,
since then, the Rolex brand had been acknowledged in Europe and the United States.
After the First
World War, Rolex returned to Geneva,
and Rolex Company made constantly innovation, and improvement on the watches in
order to develop waterproof and automatic watches.
In 1926, the first
waterproof and dustproof watch is designed, which was the famous “Oyster” watch.
In 1929, Rolex invented self-winding mechanism, which later becomes the basis
of “Perpetua” watches. In 1945, the Datejust watches were launched, and
Day-date watches were designed in 1956.
In addition, the
success of Rolex is also connected with Andre J. Heiniger who was born in La
Chaux-de-Fonds in 1921, and he was fully believed by Hans Wilsdorf at their
first meeting. In 1958, he joined the Rolex Company to work for it. Because he
pursued for quality improvement and technology innovation, so Rolex Brand is
successful at present.
Nowadays, Rolex
watches represent high quality and precision, which are well-know around the
world. In addition, due to the special appearance design and excellent
performance, the Rolex watches are popular and widely loved by many watch enthusiasts.
