In 1970, NASA issued
the “Silver Snoopy Award” to Omega in order to commend omega's contribution to
the Apollo Program. As the favorite character in the cartoon called “Peanuts”
and mascot of NASA, the “Snoopy” image was emblazoned on the dial and back of
new Omega Speedmaster watches in memory of the award.

On April 17 of 1970,
“Apollo 13” Command Module landed safely on the Pacific
Ocean, which was concerned by millions of people. However, before
the successful landing, the spacecraft ran into a space accident 200,000 miles away
from the earth. “Apollo 13” was the seventh manned space flight mission and the
third moon mission of Apollo Program, but it had to suspend because two oxygen storage
tanks exploded during the flight. Finally, after the astronauts completed a
series of orbit corrections, the spacecraft moved into the right track and
re-entered the earth atmosphere.
To show respect to
the unforgettable space mission, Omega launches the Speedmaster Apollo 13 Snoopy
Limited watches in memory of the team
cooperation, cleverness and courage. Besides, owing to the smart qualities, Jim
Lovell who was the commander of the “Apollo 13”, Jack Swiger who was the pilot of
the command module, and Fred Haise who was the pilot of the lunar module returned
home safely.

Especially, under
the 14 small square frames of 0 to 14 seconds, the sentence of “What could you
do in 14 seconds?” is printed in order to praise the actions of astronauts of Apollo 13 to correct the track within 14
seconds. Moreover, the centre of the dial is decorated with letters of “Failure
is not an option” in memory of the astronauts’ spirit, which makes the watches
meaningful and worth collecting.
